When patients with severe and chronic pain are unable to have surgery or other interventional treatments and procedures, the Sphenopalatine Ganglion Block (SPG) may be a viable alternative. The technique which has been used in numerous renowned pain centers across the USA, involves placing very thin q-tips with topical anesthetic intranasally for approximately 45 minutes. The procedure is not painful, and is covered by a variety of insurances. When successful, the technique provides dramatic pain relief for patients who often have limited treatment options. It is safe and a great alternative to more invasive procedures and techniques.
